For the past decade, my daughter and I have been regulars in the audience at Simply Theatre’s studio in Versoix. We still burst into songs from shows we saw when she was little — proof that this British-run academy leaves a lasting mark on families who visit.

But the real magic begins long before opening night, in the weekly drama and performing-arts courses that run from September to June.

What your child can join:

  • Mini Drama (ages 4–6) – one lively hour of storytelling, movement and make-believe that builds vocabulary and coordination while kids just think they’re playing.
  • Drama (ages 7–18 divided into age groups) – 90-minute sessions focused on acting technique, text work and improvisation for youngsters ready to dig into character and clear speech.
  • Performing Arts (ages 7–18 divided into age groups) – a three-hour block split between acting, singing and dance, each taught by a specialist tutor so every discipline gets proper attention.

Lessons aren’t limited to Versoix. The academy also runs classes in Petit-Lancy and Veyrier, plus partner studios in Lausanne and across the border in Annecy — handy if you live on the Vaud or French side of the lake. You can see all the locations here.

Why these classes matter?

Simply put, theatre tutors are working actors and directors, but their greatest skill is coaxing confidence. Energetic kids learn to channel their fire into disciplined creativity. At the same time, quieter children can “try on” eye contact, posture and projection behind the safety of a character until those tools feel natural. I watched my daughter’s shoulders straighten over her years of Stage Drama—she only pressed pause when secondary-school timetables clashed with rehearsals.

From classroom to spotlight

All groups perform in an end-of-the-year showcase in Versoix—parents are always amazed. Because the academy is also a professional theatre company, students can audition and step onto a stage in a professional show, either in the Versoix studio or in the bigger theatre in Geneva.

Easy to try — and to stay

A six-week paid trial lets families test the waters before committing to the whole season, and sibling discounts help if your living room hosts more than one budding actor. Scripts, songs and feedback are all in English, making the classes a bonus language workout for bilingual households in French-speaking Switzerand.
